How long does it take to charge an electric car?

Electric vehicles are on the rise. As more people are becoming concerned with the environment, buying an electric car has been proven to be one of the most effective ways of reducing your carbon footprint.

However, for many people there is still a lot of uncertainty surrounding EV’s. Such as how long does it really take to charge? In this helpful guide we’ll be explaining everything you need to know about charging your EV and the best ways you can do it.

Size of vehicle battery.

It’s worth bearing in mind that the size of your vehicle and the speed of the charging point is going to influence the overall charging time. The larger the vehicle the greater the size of the battery which means it will take longer. So, if you have an electric vehicle on the larger size, purchasing a more powerful charging point of 100 kW will probably be more useful.

Rapid charge.

Some charging points can charge at a much faster rate than regular electric stations. With thousands of rapid charge points up and down the UK, they’re the quickest way to charge your car. These are normally found in parking spots at the side of the road, ready to use where you’re parked and normally reach 80% charging capacity within an hour.

Charge where you park.

Something that is becoming more common is charging your electric vehicle where you park. EV charging stations are cropping up everywhere, from shopping centres to car parking spots - they allow you to top up your vehicle wherever.

Typically, on average a regular sized electric car with a 60kWH battery will take under 8 hours, so if you’re planning on having a big shopping trip, you can return to a fully charged car. It’d cost between £6-11 to fully charge your battery using these stations.
